Fusion Weightlifting has been Sanctioned in Manhattan for a little less than 2 months now and our team is doing amazing! It’s a rarity to find an Olympic Style Weightlifting GYM in Manhattan and we feel very lucky to make our homebase at Pure Fitness NYC (14th st btw 2nd and 3rd ave). With that said it seems more and more lifters are passing through, this is great news because it means that the sport is spreading!
With all the lifters from Weightlifting, Powerlifting, CrossFit, Rippetoe guys, or whatever you are, I thought it’ll be good to remind people of basic Weightlifting gym etiquette:
Sharing:
Let’s face it, when meatheads hit the gym, it becomes a time warp back to pre-school. That means temper tantrums flying left and right.
Unfortunately temper tantrum, like above have been seen with grown men at Pure. We saw “Litte Ronnie” throw a dumbbell across the room because someone jumped in between his sets on the lat-pull down….true story…
Point being, let’s all realize that we’re here to get strong. Right now there’s only one platform and squat rack, so be polite and allow others to work in. Such a VERY simple rule to follow!
Efficiency:
As stated earlier, there’s only one platform and squat rack so be aware of rotation and be prepared. While it would be nice if we could have five squat racks and five platforms to use up, we unfortunately do not. When there’s three people squatting in the rack and four people on the platform, it gets to be chaotic and time consuming.
The lifters need to be ready and prepared, just like this:
Work as a team and everything moves fast!
If you’re on deck you should have everything ready to go, chalked up, belt ready to go, and anything else. The other guys resting need to know what weights are going to be changed out and plates ready to be loaded. When we work as a TEAM everything moves faster, it’s not only efficient but shows that you’re supportive of your team-mates.
Clean Up:
If you take out the bumper plates or weightlifting bar, please return it. Plain and simple! If you bleed on the bar, clean it up!
We need to hire Terry Tate to enforce the “Unwritten Rules” of Weightlifting
